Strong performances in recent rankings
McGill has rated among the world’s top 50 universities every year since THE introduced its current methodology in 2010. This year, the rankings included a record 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories, an increase of 4.8 per cent from last year.
The rankings assess universities across five broad areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.
Teaching measures the learning environment. Research environment assesses research volume, income and reputation, while research quality measures citation impact, research strength, research excellence and research influence. International outlook reflects international staff, students and research collaborations. Industry measures income and patents.
McGill recorded an overall score of 77.7 out of 100, its highest under the current methodology. The University also achieved its best-ever scores in two of the ranking’s five indicators: research environment and industry.
The solid performance in THE rankings is consistent with recent results in other rankings. June, the University was rated 30th in the world and best in Canada in the QS World University Rankings. Also in June, McGill was ranked 28th by the Center for World University Rankings.
