McGill ranked as 28th best university in the world

Only Canadian institution to rate the global Top 100 in three of the four indicators in the 2026 Center for World University Rankings

McGill University has placed 28th in the 2026 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), putting it in the top 0.2 per cent of the 21,291 institutions evaluated. The University slipped from 27th in 2025.

This marks the eighth consecutive year that McGill has been ranked in the Global Top 30 by CWUR.

McGill ranked second in Canada behind the University of Toronto (23rd). However, McGill was the only Canadian institution to rate the global Top 100 in three of the four indicators. The University topped the country in the quality of education indicator which measures the number of an institution’s alumni who have won major awards, medals and prizes relative to the institution’s size.

McGill was rated 50th in quality of faculty, 62nd in research performance and 107th in alumni employment.
