Did you know that approximately 1 in 5 Canadian adults live in pain every day? Did you also know that over 50% of people with chronic pain also suffer from depression, and suicide rates almost double that of normal rates for Canadians? On Nov. 5, in conjunction with National Pain Awareness Week 2009, the Louise & Alan Edwards Foundation will sponsor a free public lecture by the Director of Clinical Research of the MUHC Pain Clinic and Assistant Professor in Family Medicine and Anesthesia at McGill, Dr. Mark Ware. The lecture will cover an overview of the mechanisms underlying different kinds of chronic pain; outline what a multidisciplinary pain clinic does; discuss the impact of pain on mood, sleep and quality of life; review advances in pain management and explore the patient’s role in their own pain management.
When Pain Never Sleeps, Free Public Lecture with Dr. Mark A. Ware, Thursday, Nov. 5, 6:30 – 8 p.m., Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Maxwell Cummings Auditorium, 1379 Sherbrooke St. W. Seating is limited so please RSVP at www.understandthepain.ca
