McGill’s excellent family-friendly benefits, flexible work options and promotion of a diverse and respectful campus culture are among the reasons the University has, for a 11th year running, been named one of Montreal’s Top Employers. Compiled by the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, the list recognizes the employers in Greater Montreal that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.
According to the Top 100 Employers’ website, employers are evaluated using eight criteria: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial and family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs
This year’s winners were announced on January 31, in a special magazine published in the Montreal Gazette.
Here are some of the reasons why McGill was selected as one of Montreal’s Top Employers (2019):
- McGill offers excellent family-friendly benefits, from maternity leave top-up payments for new mothers to parental top-up for adoptive parents – additionally, employees have the option to extend their leave to an unpaid leave of absence and may take advantage of onsite daycare at McGill’s main campus
- McGill celebrates exceptional performance and achievement through a variety of initiatives, including the President’s Award, the Principal’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Macdonald Campus Award of Excellence (to name a few)
- McGill maintains a Social Equity and Diversity Education Office to provide information, education and training in order to cultivate a respectful and supportive campus culture – and recognizes community members who further equity and inclusivity at the university through the Award for Equity and Community Building
