On Tuesday, April 12, McGill signed new collective agreements with three bargaining units represented by Service Employees Union (SEU) Local 800. Together, they represent 152 McGill employees.
The SEU Trades (Downtown), SEU Powerhouse (Downtown) and SEU Trades & Powerhouse (Macdonald Campus) unions each signed separate six-year agreements, which extend retroactively from 2013 through to May 31, 2019.
“SEU members keep McGill up and running,” said Michael Di Grappa, Vice-Principal (Administration & Finance). “They’ve kept our grounds beautiful, our buildings heated and lit, and our facilities maintained even in trying financial times. They deserve a lot of credit for the extraordinary work they do.”
“We’ve signed an agreement today that we can all be proud of.”
Robert Huot, President of the SEU Trades (Downtown) union, agreed, saying “the SEU 800 Negotiation Committee is very happy to come to this agreement with the University during these hard times, and we are happy to be part of the McGill Community.”
SEU Trades (Downtown) includes 93 tradespeople and other workers who play a wide range of important roles on McGill’s Downtown Campus.
The SEU Powerhouse (Downtown) unit’s 28 members operate and maintain the Power House facility, which efficiently heats much of McGill’s Downtown Campus.
SEU Trades & Powerhouse (Macdonald) includes 31 tradespeople and other employees who help keep the Macdonald Campus operating smoothly.
