The hockey Redmen are red-hot, and at just the right time. With the playoffs looming, a pair of weekend wins over UQTR and cross-town rival Concordia made it seven victories in a row for coach Martin Raymond’s squad. More importantly, the wins helped McGill clinch second place in the OUA’s Far East division.

At the Le Colisée in Trois-Rivières on Friday, with McGill Principal Heather Munroe-Blum in attendance, the unranked Redmen defeated the No.3-ranked UQTR Patriotes for the second game in a row. The Patriotes have now lost their last three games.

McGill goalie Kevin Désfossés was the big hero in the 4-3 win, stopping 48 of the shots directed at him. UQTR outshot McGill 51-23.

Sunday’s win over Concordia in the annual Corey Cup game was the Redmen’s 13th in their last 15 contests. After dropping four of the first five games of the year, they now boast a 17-7-2 record with only two regular season games remaining.  Senior Marko Kovacevic notched his first career hat trick in the 4-3 win at Concorida’s Ed Meagher Arena.
