McGill University honoured its 2024 Safety Ambassadors – six individuals and two teams – at an event organized by Campus Public Safety Oct. 29.

“This is an occasion for our Campus Public Safety Unit to recognize individuals who have contributed immensely to our safety culture here at the University,” said Pierre Barbarie, Senior Director, Campus Public Safety.

“We do this on an annual basis because we realize that this is an effort by all and not just by the security professionals at the University,” he said.

This year’s honourees are:

  • Youssef Chebli, Imaging Facility Manager and Research Associate at Macdonald Campus
  • Infrastructure and Information Security (IIS) team
  • Mark Plenzich, South-West Sector Supervisor for Building Operations at Facilities Management and Ancillary Services
  • Gabriel Venne, Associate Professor, Anatomy and Cell Biology
  • IT Services Phoenix Implementation Project team
  • Maria Drossos, Administrator, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
  • Rebecca Florina Mossa, Supervisor Building Envelope, Facilities Call Center
  • Jeremie Smith, Quality Systems Manager, Comparative Medicine and Animal Resources Centre

Denis Mondou, Associate Vice-Principal, Facilities Management and Ancillary Services, reminded the audience that the relationship between security personnel and the McGill community works best when it is reciprocal.

“Our Safety Ambassadors are essential partners in all our activities,” said Mondou. “We will be increasingly needing individuals such as yourself to lead by example by taking ownership of the safety of their environment and the health of their colleagues.”
