This spring, Brenda Milner, recognized as a founder of cognitive neuroscience, was named a 2005 winner of the Gairdner Award. The Dorothy J. Killam Professor at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill was awarded the prestigious international prize for her pioneering research in memory. A few weeks later, Milner was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
