On June 10, 2014, the University received notice that postdoctoral fellows filed a motion with the Commission des relations du travail (CRT) to become unionized as part of AMURE (Association of McGill University Research Employees), a bargaining unit of PSAC. The University is required to produce a list of employees who meet the criteria to be included in this group for discussion at a meeting with the CRT on July 17.

Postdoctoral fellows are students who have completed their doctoral studies and who continue to work in their field of interest by conducting research under a supervisor or a principal investigator.
