Two McGill researchers receive IPaSS grants

Prof. Claudia Mitchell, Department of Integrated Studies in Education and Prof. John Galaty, from the Anthropology Department have each been awarded a grant under the International Partnership for Sustainable Societies, a $10 million initiative funded by Canada’s International Development Research Centre and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Claudia Mitchell, her team and their counterparts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, will receive $2.4 million over the next six years to work on research to address sexual violence and security by engaging girls and women in policy-making processes in Canada and South Africa. John Galaty, his team and their counterparts at the African Conservation Centre, Kenya, will receive $2.6 million over the next seven years to help design conservation programs in East African communities that are designed to protect biodiversity, improve access to natural resources, and boost livelihoods in the region.
