From the Great Lakes to the Great Wall of China, McGill's students, staff and faculty covered a lot of ground this summer.

Meteora (a rock formation in the regional unit of Trikala, in Thessaly, in northwestern Greece). “These Monasteries boast a unique backdrop. Overlooking each other and the valley beneath.”Matthew Prent, History and Classical Studies student
October is upon us and as summer disappears in our rearview mirror, we take one last look at the best of those sunny days. The Reporter’s annual summer vacation photo gallery features gorgeous photos submitted by McGill students, faculty and staff.
McGillians covered a lot of ground this summer. En route to exploring six continents (Antarctica being the only one we didn’t visit), we travelled by plane, boat, bus, bike, train, car and even paraglider. We flew, sailed, paddled, climbed and hiked through cityscapes, rural country sides and vast wildernesses.
Along the way, we explored grottos in Portugal, watched baseball in Pittsburgh, cruised past glaciers in Alaska and observed lions, caribou and elephants in their natural habitats. From the Great Lakes to the Great Wall of China, our collective summer was nothing short of great.
Thanks to everyone who participated.

I love baseball. Its pace, its history, the storylines, and (of course!) getting a chance to see a game in a great ballpark. This past summer I got to visit one of my kids who was studying in Pittsburgh for the summer and we got to a game. PNC park is one of the most amazing stadiums: overlooking the river and cityscape. The afternoon was perfect, and while the Pirates lost that afternoon, it really didn't matter

Noon in La Palma, Chalatenango. Salvadorean artist Fernando Llort created the typical colorful naïve style of art inspired by the rural backdrop life of the country. This shot was taken from the balcony of the resto, while we waited for our meal at lunch time. In it, we see an older peasant slowly strolling through town with the weight of time and that of a hard life lived.

Sunset at Barra de Santiago, Ahuachapan. At Sunset, I walked to the beach and was mesmerized by this scene. Interestingly, the name of the boat is called “Plenitud” which translates to “Plenitude”, (the condition of being full or complete). Somehow this scene symbolized the quest of our trip and what I felt at the end; It was the opportunity to have lived the intense beauty of this land and its people.
