Dr. Barbara Jones recently received the 2009 Distinguished Scientist Award, the highest honour presented by the Sleep Research Society (SRS) for original and sustained contributions. Dr. Jones, a professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and a researcher at the Montreal Nuerological Institute since 1977, studies the chemical neurotransmitters, anatomical projections and physiology of the neurons that stimulate and maintain a waking state, and the neurons that promote sleep. The SRS also recognized Dr. Jones as a Significant Early Contributor to the field of modern sleep research and sleep medicine
