McGill learned late last week that Phase II of the construction project to rebuild the Redapth Terrace outside the McLennan and Redpath library buildings will stretch on longer than anticipated.
Unforeseen problems associated with renovating a more than 50-year-old space, along with shortages of paving stones for the finishing layer mean the work is likely to go on until December.
Construction will be halted for the fall exam period, which starts Dec. 6, if necessary.
The project, being completed in three phases, began with a renovation and rebuilding of the passageway below the connection between the two libraries and will continue next summer and into the fall with the most northerly portion of the terrace, which has been plagued by water leaks and other problems in recent years.
