Redpath Museum closure postponed

Visitors have more time to visit the Museum before it closes for renovations.

Students, researchers, and community members at large will still be able to visit McGill’s Redpath Museum in the new year. Due to project delays, the Museum’s closure, which was initially scheduled for January 2024, has been postponed.   The Museum will reopen on January 9.

The goal of the upcoming renovation project is to make the heritage building more accessible through the construction of a new entrance, the addition of an elevator, and the widening of certain passageways. Two new gender- and mobility-inclusive washrooms will be added.

Most of the financing for the work was secured in recent years, including from the Ministry of Education and generous donors. However, recently identified challenges associated with renovations to a historic building will require some additional consideration from McGill Facilities Management and Ancillary Services. As a result, the closure will be postponed until further notice.

The additional time means that drop-in visitors will remain welcome until further notice. Public programming for 2024 is also in development and will be updated on the website once the schedule is finalized.
