An incident occurred in room 430 (a laboratory) near noon in the Otto Maass building. A reaction unexpectedly occurred in a flask and resulted in some charring and smoke. There was no fire, no significant damage and no injuries.
Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is conducting a full investigation. The clean up and follow up is expected to start tomorrow morning. In the meantime and until EHS gives the all clear, this area will be closed.
