No second flood, City of Montreal says

Contrary to some media reports, the City of Montreal has told us that there is no second flood from a large water main under the corner of University St. and Pine Ave. There is, and has been since yesterday afternoon, a smaller leak from a second pipe near the site of the original break in the 48-inch water main that caused so much damage yesterday. The City expects to have the leak in the smaller pipe closed by later today.

We continue to have water flowing on to the campus from this second leak, which is being joined on the roadway in front of the Wong and Rutherford  buildings by water being pumped from flooded buildings.

The City expects to have the leak in the smaller pipe closed by later today.

Please note that McGill’s supply of drinking water has not been compromised by this incident.

We will keep you updated.
