MERS throws spotlight on Engineering grad students

More than 45 graduate students from the Faculty of Engineering presented their research results via poster presentations at the Third Annual McGill Engineering Research Showcase (MERS) held by the Faculty of Engineering on Monday, Oct. 5.

More than 45 graduate students from the Faculty of Engineering presented their research results via poster presentations at the third annual McGill Engineering Research Showcase (MERS) held by the Faculty of Engineering on Monday, Oct. 5.

MERS is a showcase and celebration of graduate student research in the Faculty of Engineering that provides a forum for industry to connect with McGill’s graduate students and faculty. Attendees from industry and McGill faculty, students and alumni were also able to learn more about the innovative research taking place in the areas of Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology, Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Information & Communications Technology, and Sustainability in Engineering and Design.

Five students won the best poster prize, one for each strategic research area:

  • Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology (sponsored by the McGill Institute for Advanced Materials) – Khadija Iqbal for “Value added Poly(ethylene) via Amine-Anhydride Reaction for Industrial Barrier Material Applications”
  • Aerospace Engineering (sponsored by the McGill Institute for Aerospace Engineering) – Kobye Bodjona for “Design and Analysis of Bonded-Bolted Aircraft Structural Joints”
  • Bioengineering (sponsored by the Faculty of Engineering) – Catherine Pagiatakis for “Stenosis Eccentricity has a Significant Effect on Coronary Bifurcation Lesion Functionality”
  • Information & Communications Technology (sponsored by the Centre for Intelligent Machines) – Colin Gallacher for “Haplet: An Open-Source, Portable and Affordable Haptic Device for Democratizing Haptic Technologies”
  • Sustainability in Engineering & Design (sponsored by the Trottier Institute for Sustainability in Engineering and Design – Keena Trowell and Jan Palecka for “Clean Combustion of Metal Powders”
