McGill rugby player Brianna Miller of Pointe Claire, Que., and Sami Obaid, a former McGill soccer star and graduate who now plays for the Montreal Carabins, have been selected athletes of the week by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, for the period ending Sept. 9, 2012.
Miller, a 5-foot-5 fly-half, racked up 31 points as visiting McGill, opened regular season play in the RSEQ women’s university rugby conference by crushing Carleton 71-5, Sunday. The 21-year-old physical and health education junior tallied three tries and added eight conversions, was 13 points shy of her single-game school record (44) registered against Bishop’s last year. Prior to enrolling at McGill in 2010, she previously played for John Abbott College
Obaid, a 24-year-old native of Laval, Que., who previously attended medical school at McGill, scored twice and collected a pair of assists in a 5-0 win by the Carabins over Concordia last Thursday.
