Four students from the Desautels Faculty of Management were recent recipients of a Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) 2012 Excellence Award, an annual program that showcases innovators, leaders, service professionals and emerging stars.

Melanie Walsh, Nisha Shankar, Thomas Weber and Jun Yeo won the Student Leadership in Internationalization Award, given to recognize outstanding student contributions to internationalization. The quartet led the charity component of the Hot Cities of the World Tour, a course offered through the Desautels Faculty of Management that uses experiential learning to teach students about national competitiveness. The team successfully partnered with a local NGO, developed and implemented a social media campaign, engaged the students, raised funds, and provided positive media exposure for McGill on an international scale.

This year marks the twelfth in which the CBIE Excellence Awards Program honours CBIE members and colleagues who demonstrate a deep commitment to international education and inspire our admiration. Winners were presented with their award on Nov. 7, at CBIE’s 46th Annual Conference at Le Centre Sheraton.

“It’s always a pleasure to reflect on the dedication, passion and achievements of our members,” said CBIE President and CEO Karen McBride. “The Excellence Awards are an opportunity for CBIE to recognize that the collective efforts of members, exemplified in these extraordinary individuals, truly make a difference in the advancement of our shared goals. It is my pleasure to thank them personally for their outstanding contributions.”
