As part of a continuing effort to save money and make it easier to book travel, McGill’s Procurement Services has reached agreements with Air Canada and Porter Airlines for all University-related travel departing from Canada to all Air Canada and Porter destinations.
McGill travelers will benefit from contracted discounts, which will be offered at the time of purchase. The Air Canada discounts vary according to the destination and the fare type, and the discounts start at the Flex fare (economy class) level and up. The discounts for Porter Airlines are valid on all fare types including seat sales (some exceptions apply).
“We’re very excited about this program,” said Gloria Bachar, Travel Program Manager in Procurement Services. “The more people can save on their travel costs, the more of their budgets they can use for other purposes. Stay tuned, we’ve got more on the way.”
This initiative came about as part of the Travel Management Program that Procurement Services is currently working on. One part of this program is to establish contractual relationships through the tendering process with various service providers within the travel industry, including airlines, hotels and car rental companies. The goal is to obtain advantageous prices – with favorable levels of service and conditions – for McGill faculty, staff and students traveling on behalf of the University for University-related activities.
For the time being, access to these discounts is channeled through two of McGill’s preferred travel agencies. Online bookings are also possible by first registering with one of the two travel agencies.
