March 20: What women need to know about blood clots

Women are at increased risk of developing blood clots in the deep veins of their legs and in their lungs (known as venous thrombosis) during certain periods of their lives. On March 20 a panel of experts will discuss factors that can increase women’s risk for developing blood clots and what can be done to prevent clots from forming.

Women are at increased risk of developing blood clots in the deep veins of their legs and in their lungs (known as venous thrombosis) during certain periods of their lives. These times are usually associated with hormonal changes, such as during the use of oral contraceptive pills, pregnancy or hormone replacement therapy. You are invited to attend the CIHR Café Scientifique on Thursday, March 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Java U Côte-des-Neiges (5620 Cote-des-Neiges, corner Dupuis), where expert panelists from the Jewish General Hospital will discuss factors that can increase women’s risk for developing blood clots and what can be done to prevent clots from forming. Café Scientifique is hosted by the Jewish General Hospital in collaboration with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
