McGill Law’s Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism will be honouring renowned Human Rights lawyer, Joseph Arvay, QC, with the Robert S. Litvack Memorial Award. Arvay has argued some of the most groundbreaking Canadian constitutional and Charter cases before the Supreme Court of Canada. He argued successfully, for the first time, that sexual orientation is a prohibited ground for discrimination under the Canadian Charter. He has also argued successfully on behalf of sex workers in Vancouver’s downtown eastside, safe-injection sites and in favour of physician-assisted suicide. On March 18 at 5:30 p.m., Mr. Arvay will receive the award and then present a lecture entitled “Stories of a Constitutional Lawyer.” More information can be found here.
