East meets West at Desautels

This month, 25 business students from China’s Shantou University are getting a taste of life at McGill and Montreal through the Desautels Faculty of Management’s International Summer Program. The program offers intensive classes on global branding and managing in North America, and includes organized city-wide cultural activities and excursions to Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls.

This month, 25 business students from China’s Shantou University are getting a taste of life at McGill and Montreal through the Desautels Faculty of Management’s International Summer Program.

Their participation is made possible through the Li Ka Shing Program in International Business – one of three initiatives established at the University last fall thanks to a $6.6 million donation from the Li Ka Shing (Canada) Foundation to promote scholarship and exchange between McGill and Shantou.

The International Summer Program provides international undergraduate students, from any discipline, with the opportunity to spend the month of July studying at McGill. The program offers intensive classes on global branding and managing in North America, and includes organized city-wide cultural activities and excursions to Ottawa, Toronto and Niagara Falls. According to Shantou student Junyi (Cassie) Liang, “The teaching here is quite different from the Chinese style. It’s such a fresh learning experience.”

For Qiming (Kyle) Kuang, one of the reasons he joined the program was because “McGill is famous around the world for its rich history and academic achievements.” Enjoying the experience so far, Kuang notes that “This program has broadened my horizons and given me an appreciation of the world.”
