BBQ a big success

The weather was perfect, the crowds were large, but not too big, and the burgers and dogs were delicious. Principal Heather Munroe-Blum’s barbecue for staff and students went without a hitch today with about 3,500 people lining up at four food stations for a burger, a veggie burger or a hot dog, along with chips and drinks.

Throngs of people mingled in the square in front of the James Building as teams behind the grills worked hard to keep up with demand.

In the end, it worked out well. The barbecues kept going beyond the 1:30 end time; everyone was fed and content and, given that plans called for feeding up to about 3,500 people, there was very little food left over. Those leftovers weren’t wasted; arrangements were in place to make sure any surplus would be used at McGill.
