Québec’s Conseil des ministres has announced that Prof. James Archibald, Director of Translation Studies at the Centre for Continuing Education, has been reappointed as a one of five members of the Office des professions du Québec on the recommendation of Justice Minister Kathleen Weil. The Office is a governmental body that monitors professional orders to ensure they protect the public, as mandated, with respect to professional services. It also recommends to the government the approval of all regulations adopted by the orders, of which there are 45 with a combined membership totalling over 330,000.
Archibald, who has taught business communication and translation studies on a full-time basis since 1985, was first appointed to the Office in 2008. He is the only member of the Office who is not also a member of a professional order, a seat reserved for someone chosen based on their interest in the public protection professional orders must ensure.
