Over the past winter, 16 offices across McGill University were recognized through the Sustainable Workplace Certification program for their efforts to integrate sustainability into their daily workplace practices. Among the newly certified and progressing teams, four offices achieved Platinum certification, one achieved Gold, nine reached Silver and two attained Bronze certification. From encouraging biodiversity by uploading caterpillar observations to McGill’s iNaturalist, to rehoming furniture from other McGill units and strengthening community connections and accessibility, participating teams demonstrated creativity, collaboration and a strong commitment to fostering more sustainable workplaces.
The past semester also marked an especially exciting milestone for two teams: the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management and the Islamic Studies Library. Both offices began their Sustainable Workplace Certification journeys in summer 2025 and, within just one year, progressed from Bronze to Platinum certification, an impressive achievement that reflects their remarkable dedication and commitment to sustainability.
