From May to December 2024, 20 McGill offices began or progressed on their journey to implement sustainability practices at work by participating in the University’s Sustainable Workplace Certification program. From completing the “Envisioning a More Sustainable McGill” online module to making biodiversity observations on McGill’s iNaturalist webpage, members of these offices have shown enthusiasm, creativity and optimism as they’ve worked to advance sustainability.
In December, the Desautels Faculty of Management achieved their faculty-wide goal to reach Gold-level Sustainable Workplace Certification. Spanning the Bronfman and Armstrong buildings, 141 individuals across 13 teams completed the penultimate level of the program. This represents 88 per cent of their administrative staff.
Each Desautels team designated a Sustainable Workplace Ambassador who attended training and guided their team through the checklist. Actions included incorporating sustainability best practices into all events, eliminating many single-use items and being thoughtful about the type of swag distributed.
“We are so proud of Desautels’ achievement. It took a great deal of coordination and hard work, but seeing sustainability embedded into the fabric of the faculty makes it all worth it. Next stop? Platinum!” said Wesley McCoy, Sustainability and Events Supervisor.
