McGill research projects have been awarded at total of $16 million by the Government of Quebec and the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ). This includes $1,1 million toward research in Society and Culture; $7.7 million in the area of Health; and more than $8 million in the field of Nature and Technologies.
In all, the Quebec government and FRQ have invested $257.4 million in scholarships and grants across Quebec for the 2026-2027 funding year.
The two biggest McGill awards were to Bruce Arndtsen, James McGill Professor, Department of Chemistry, for his work on green chemistry and catalysis, and to David Plant, Canada Research Chair in Optical Fiber Communications Systems, Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, for his work on systems, technologies and applications in radio frequency and communications. Each receives $3 million.
“This significant investment from the Fonds de recherche du Québec supports the priorities of McGill’s Strategic Research Plan, enabling our researchers to tackle complex challenges in health, technology and society, while strengthening the critical infrastructure and tools that drive discovery and innovation,” said Dominique Bérubé, Vice-President (Research and Innovation).
