McGill has placed 27th in the 2025 Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), putting it in the top 0.2 per cent of the 21,462 institutions evaluated.
This is the sixth consecutive year the University has placed in the top 30.
Rankings are based on assessments in four key areas:
- Education: Alumni academic achievements relative to university size
- Employability: Alumni career success, adjusted for size
- Faculty quality: International awards received by faculty
- Research performance: Output, quality, influence and citations
Overall, McGill ranked second in Canada – behind the University of Toronto, which ranked 23rd globally – but led the country in education (27th) and was the only Canadian university to place in the global top 100 in three categories: education (27th), faculty (48th) and research (55th).
